Why I’ve Been Beating the Linux Drum Lately

Wonder why I’ve been on this Linux kick lately?

These two articles sum it up pretty well. The first one is a bit biased, but the second one is written by a guy who started a pro-windows website.

Ever since I became a Windows Vista (the next version of windows to replace XP) official beta tester I’ve been sorely unimpressed.

I’ve seen the future of microsoft folks, and it ain’t pretty. It is littered with graphics ‘enhancements’ that slow your system down needlessly, and lots of promises with little return.

Novell and Redhat on the other hand are looking to push Linux into the corporate desktop space, and Apple seems to be doing a good job of converting the home user / student lately. Both of them have been making leaps and bounds in the useful graphics enhancements over the last couple of years, and both are more stable being built on similar rock-solid architectures.

I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next ten years Apple and Linux tag-teamed to push windows below the 50% market share line.

Also, I found an interesting site today while browsing around the Ubuntu – Christian Edition site today called The Freely Project. Interesting site, especially this article:

about how to migrate from Linux w/o the headaches of learning everything all over again. That is more-or-less the path I took, and found it to be relatively painless since I was already used to using Firefox and OpenOffice.
