$100 Laptop Anyone

On the heels of free software post, I will point out some fun links to the laptop that I mentioned in poverty post.

This is the site for the creator of the laptop. It has some fun info, and some especially great answers to some questions in the FAQ section. It actually goes along rather nicely with what I was saying about closing the gap in the information divide.

Also, check out this article from the inquirer (a tech rumor and news site) about how Argentina is planning on utilizing those laptops in its school system. (is it bad that strong bad helped me remember that the word “its” should not have an apostrophe in that last sentence?)

In general, I’m a big fan of the sub $100 laptop. I think it is the perfect match of simplicity and complexity to keep poorer people involved in the world outside of their immediate physical surroundings.

In related news, my Dad is going to use me in a sermon illustration this weekend, and he called to tell me. The sermon is about stewardship. I spent a little time tring to drive home the point that good stewardship doesn’t just mean giving money or other resources, but it means sharing or giving resources away that you would normally use to get more money or resources.

That point has been a hard one for me, but it is good to hear, and to repeate for other people…especially in the suburbs (where my parents now live).
