Got a New Job

I am accepting an offer from a company called Veeco, which has an office north of St. Paul. I’ll be working in their MBE devision, which essentially means I’ll be working on systems that make silicon (and other semi-conductor) wafers. They are big machines with lots of control systems in them that heat up to 1400C, and spin a disc around while it grows metal based crystals to form the layers of the wafer.

It pays more, I am ellegible for a signing bonus (there is some waiting period for it), they are bigger (1300 employees internationally, 65 in the division I’m going to) which means better benefits like dental and life. And, the best part is that the position has design components as well as trouble-shooting components, so I get a shiny new title of “Electonics Design Engineer.”

All this, and they might want to send me back to school for a bit because they know my technical background in the areas I’ll be working in are not as strong as they would like. Something of getting my masters on thier dime was also mentioned…..that would be cool.

So, if anyone has any questions about the new place post them in the comments and I’ll see if I can get you answers.
