Club Dread

Rob, Seth and I (and possibly others) are going to forgo the large crowds this weekend who are out to see “The Passion of Christ” and see a funny movie by the Broken Lizard comedy troop called “Club Dread” This should be a hilarious movie, since it is by the same people who made “Super Troopers.” We are going to see the movie around 9ish, but wait a sec…I just checked the theaters times and it is only showing at 7:40pm and 10pm, so whoever would like to go with us, leave a comment voting on which time you would rather see it, because either one would work for me, and we will probably go to the one that the most people can go with us to. (note: if we want to spend significantly more money we can go to savoy and the times are 7:20 and 9:40)

I’ve been reading a couple of reviews on “The Passion” and it is a mixed bag. They make valid complaints about how the plot jumps right in and assumes you have an idea what is going on already, which makes for somewhat bad story-telling in most cases. But it is my guess that Gibson is primarily targeting this as a tool to increase the faithfuls devotion, not to evangelize non-Christians. That aside, the other valid claim is that “This is the bloodies movie I have ever seen” – Roger Ebert in his review of the movie. He basically said that if the MPAA was ever going to give an NC-17 rating for violence this movie would have been it. So I’m looking forward to seeing the movie after the crowds die down just a little so the theaters aren’t crowded with the rabid scary kinds of Christian crowds….you know the ones I’m talking about…thats right, think of the scariest, most fanatical Christian you know…now pack a theater full of that person….that is what I’m afraid of. It might be a little silly to be worried about that, but I also don’t like a really packed theater…you wouldn’t either if you had shoulders as wide as mine, so I’m definitely seeing Club Dread this weekend, and seeing The Passion when Lauren feels better.

OK, I’m done now.
