I haven’t updated in a while so, I thought I would just catch up with life, and list out a few interesting things I’ve found around the net lately.
Things are going pretty well at our new place. We are starting to get unpacked, and secure a few pieces of needed furniture. Lauren is still looking for a job, and she has found a nice cafe not far away so she can get out of the house and write some.
Politics lately has mostly made me sick. The republican party is starting to really fracture, the democrats still can’t get anything together, except I’m pretty sure that they hate the republicans still. And, in the cross-fire our rights are getting shit down the toilet. I thought when the government was fractured like this it was harder to legistlate stupid crap, but I’m wrong. There are a ton of bills making copyrights and patents stupider, and more protective in front of congress right now. Several of these bills will stiffle innovation, and take away consumer rights. I’m glad that there are some people out there trying to fight this silliness. You can check out one of those groups here: http://www.pirate-party.us
I really like the part where they talk about how bad patent systems really harm countries struggling with disease because the pharmacutical companies abuse that system.
In other news, I’ve never been a big fan of body modification, but I really like this:

Seriously, there are very very few things that I would ever implant in my body…this thing might be one of them after more people have tested it.
Finally, I would like to take a brief moment and say that I really like the software VMware. For those of you who don’t know what it is, the software allows you to run different opperating systems inside of your current operating system (they support windows and linux for host OS’s). I’ve been running a test version of DSL (Damn Small Linux) for work in it, and today I set it up and installed ubuntu. It basically just makes a big-ass file on your hard drive, and that file is the space that the OS inside of VMware thinks is it’s hard drive. Also, it makes up some ‘pretent’ hardware and connects that through to your actual hardware.
There are a couple of other products out there worth noting in this market of virtualization software, the big one is Xen which takes a different approach by running underneath the OS, and allows multiple OS’s to run at the same time. Slightly different, but important to note it works a little different.
Well, that is enough for today.
